Mr. Phil Lane

Mr. Phillip Lane received his Bachelor's of Music Education degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. While attending ODU, Lane studied Instrumental Education with a primary focus on Bass Trombone under Mike Hall. Mr. Lane has worked under the baton of internationally known directors and composers such as Dennis Zeisler, Julie Giroux, and Tyler Austin. While also performing in the Old Dominion University Monarch Marching Band, Mr. Lane served as the Drum Major for his final two years with the program. Lane is a brother of Men’s Music Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and also a brother of National Honor Band and Service Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Music Education Degree focusing on Instrumental Conducting.

This school year started Lane’s fifth year at Maury. Currently, he directs the Percussion Ensemble, Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Fleet, and the Maury Jazz Ensemble. In Lane's tenure, the Marching Fleet has had three competition seasons and have earned over thirty different trophies. The Maury Wind Ensemble has also earned an overall Superior Rating at the Concert Band Assessment over the last two years. This feat has allowed Maury High School to earn the Blue Ribbon Award in both 2024 and 2025.

In his free time, Mr. Lane can be found spending time with his wife, Ema and their two cats, Loki and Winston. Outside of school music, Lane has also been known to perform with community ensembles such as Symphonic Artisty and the Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble.
