Mr. Phil Lane

Mr. Phillip Lane received his Bachelor's of Music Education degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. While attending ODU, Lane studied Instrumental Education with a primary focus on Bass Trombone under Mike Hall. Mr. Lane has worked under the baton of internationally known directors and composers such as Dennis Zeisler, Julie Giroux, and Michael Oare. While also performing in the Old Dominion University Monarch Marching Band, Mr. Lane served as the Drum Major for his final two years with the program. Lane is a brother of Men’s Music Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and also a brother of National Honor Band and Service Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Music Education Degree focusing on Instrumental Conducting. He is currently the Director of Bands at Maury High School. Ensembles include but are not limited to the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Beginning Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Marching Fleet. In his tenure, the student participation is at an all time high.

In the Fall of 2025, Mr. Lane received the Virginia Music Educator Association’s District 2 Oustanding Beginning Teacher Award. This honor highlights educators in their 1st-5th year of teachers who serve as full-time classroom teachers and are active VMEA Members. His dedication, musicianship, and commitment to his students have made a remarkable impact in just a few short years, and this recognition reflects his passion and excellence for music education.

Outside of his own program, Mr. Lane has performed with community groups such as the Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble and has conducted ensembles such as Symphonic Artistry and the ODU Symphonic Band.
